Al Joseph is back with 20 brand new full metal licks to drill your chops into shape! These licks are perfect as warmup licks or for full on shredding. Al says 'In this package I have created 20 licks that I've pulled from some of my favourite exercises that I use to either maintain or increase my technicality'.

These licks feature lots chop building techniques, such as alternate and economy picking and sweep picking at fast beat subdivisions to drill your right hand technique into shape. In order to keep up with Al's super-clean super-fast picking, your left hand and hand-synchronisation are both going to get a tough workout. You'll finish up in top shape if you can tackle and master these tough licks.

25 years ago today, Voyager took the famous Pale Blue Dot photograph...

The Pale Blue Dot is a photograph of planet Earth taken in 1990 by Voyager I from a distance of about 3.7 billion miles. At the urging of Dr Carl Sagan, Ground Control issued a command that directed the distant space craft to turn around and, looking back, to take photos of each of the planets it had visited. From Voyager's vast distance, the Earth was captured as a infinitesimal point of light, actually smaller than a single pixel of the photo. The image was taken with a narrow angle camera lens, with the Sun quite close to the field of view. Quite by accident, the Earth was captured in one of the scattered light rays caused by taking the image at an angle so close to the Sun.

There is also evidence of volcanism, tectonics, and cryolava flows. Ariel is the fourth largest of the 27 known moons of Uranus and much of the detailed knowledge of Ariel derives from a single flyby of Uranus by Voyager II which photographed about a third of the moon's surface.

This was one of the most influential solos in my formative years and I never gave it a serious shot until now. I tried to be as true to the original as possible as far as phrasing, tone, articulation, positions, etc. go. Obviously I don't have a floating tremolo, so this is the best I can do. This beast of a solo sure took a couple of takes!

Billy Gibbons is working on a solo album inspired by Cuban music – and he took advice from Foo Fighters mainman Dave Grohl before deciding to take the project seriously.

And despite his blues background, he describes the side-project as something of a return to his roots.

Gibbons tells Rolling Stone: “When I was 13 I got a guitar and my dad, being the consummate entertainer, sent me to New York to study Latin percussion.

“I learned maracas, timbales, clavas, bongos – you name it. And having lived in Mexico a couple of years, I know just enough Spanish to get me in trouble.”

He adds: “It’s turning out to be such an obtuse, oddball, unexpected left-turn from ZZ Top. But there is something to it.”

He’s nearing completion on the work, before rejoining his main outfit to resume the touring plans that were interrupted when Dusty Hill suffered a tour bus fall.
