The whole Guitar Idol thing has been surreal, meeting some huge influences in my playing, some awesome musicians I look up to and I can hardly believe They consider me their peer. It was just ridiculous hanging out and talking shop, jamming.. Drinking
Anyways I did have some pretty brutal sound issues on the day but nevertheless I regret nothing and I'm just so happy to be here. Even more insane is that I'm going to the Lick Library studio tomorrow to record.... Well you'll just have to wait and see!
So keep your eyeballs peeled. Lol

Ad Perpetuum, released in October 2014, is bass player Antoine Fafard’s third album of new work, and features Vinnie Colaiuta and Jerry De Villiers Jr throughout the collection. Colaiuta’s extraordinary performances show why he is a true drum legend, while De Villiers Jr’s beautiful tone and inspired guitar work will prove irresistible to all fans of jazz fusion.

Additional guests include keyboardist Gerry Etkins on three songs and saxophonist Jean-Pierre Zanella on another three tracks. Another significant contribution comes from Gary Husband, who features on the intense drum duet D-Day.

Vinnie Colaiuta and Jerry De Villiers Jr were involved in the Ad Perpetuum project from its inception. A two-day session booked with Vinnie for January 2014 provided the deadline for writing the material, giving Antoine a three-month window to compose all the pieces for the album. This was the first time that Antoine had been challenged to meet a specific deadline for a personal project.

The music on Ad Perpetuum encompasses a broad spectrum of grooves and atmospheres. A conscious effort was made to offer a multitude of tempos, time signatures, structures and harmonic variations in order to showcase the virtuosity of the players. De Villiers Jr’s incredible guitar playing and tone brings a deep vitality to the music, while Colaiuta’s playing is simply flawless.

“Antoine’s music is really cool… it’s very challenging… he’s a wonderful musician.” - Jimmy Haslip

How To Create Awesome Sweep Picking Licks While Improving Your Guitar Technique

If you are having problems playing your sweep picking arpeggios fast and clean then you are not alone. Many guitarists have the same problem. I suffered from the same problem, years ago. In fact, playing sweep picking arpeggios with poor technique is one of the most common problems that I encounter with my guitar students. After helping them overcome these challenges I have discovered 2 different approaches to improving your sweep picking technique. The first will keep you frustrated with bad technique while the second will allow your technique to improve exponentially.

Choose Your Approach

Guitar Practice Approach 1:
It may make sense to you that when your arpeggio playing is not clean or fast you need to practice MORE sweep picking arpeggios. The problem with this idea is that more practice is not what you need. With this approach you are ignoring the fundamental problems with your technique and simply playing a lot of different arpeggios poorly. This takes your focus away from the real problems of your guitar technique.

Guitar Practice Approach 2:
If you want to clean up your arpeggio playing then don't take your focus away from your technique problems with more arpeggios. Instead, make whatever lick you are currently working an independent exercise. Doing this will show you which notes are sloppy and you can see why and how these problems are happening. This will help you in 2 different ways:

· By fixing your technique problems in your first exercise, you will find that any and all sweep picking licks you practice in the future will be much cleaner and faster

· By changing these boring arpeggio shapes your new exercises will often become cool and unique on their own. You can use these new sweep picking guitar licks to add a new element to your guitar solos.

Watch this video about making your sweep picking faster and cleaner to see an example of this second guitar practice approach in action.

Check out the tab for the 5 string arpeggio lesson here.

How To Use These Ideas In Your Guitar Practice To Make You A Better Guitar Player:

It's important to realize that the lesson here is NOT the arpeggio exercise itself and NOT the concept of playing your arpeggio notes with tremolo. The
lesson here is that you need to adapt the right mindset so you can better approach solving the problems in ALL areas of your guitar technique:

1. If you are just looking for more guitar exercises, then you aren't improving. Understand exactly which notes aren't clean when you play your current exercise. This will help you make EVERYTHING you play cleaner and better.

2. Problems and mistakes in your guitar playing are not random– they are always caused by bigger problems. These causes must be identified. Then isolated and fixed. Settling for sloppy guitar technique will not help you reach your goals
at all.

3. You can modify even the most boring exercises in a creative way thus improving your guitar playing and creating awesome licks at the same time.

In the video I demonstrated just one of the many examples of how you can use this approach to greatly improve your guitar technique. For even more examples
on how to become a faster, cleaner and more accurate guitar player, check out how to increase your overall guitar speed.

Ignazio Di Salvo:

Hello!

I'm very happy to announce that finally my solo album "A Gift to the World" is available in both physical and digital copy.  For me it is a very important result, after more than a year of hard work!

This album means a lot to me: "A gift to the world" reflects my music vision: Music as a feeling, an emotion to give to the world with sincerity, passion and devotion in order to improve the society in which we live to make more informed, sensitive and spiritually evolved the people who come close to the music itself.

Music, like any form of art has still a deep influence in our society and musicians at first must never forget that our function may become important in order to bring positive value to the people who are next to us.

So, here's the meaning of the title of this album, and I am very happy to offer it to you all!

Tony MacAlpine: talks in detail about Maximum Security

(For those not old enough to remember - this is a vinyl LP)

TONY MACALPINE - The King's cup - (Maximum security - 1987)

"At the start of this period of creativity it was towards the end of the Eighties, and I had been writing plenty of tunes that displayed guitar prowess. But now as per the request of Cliff Burnstein who wanted me to explore deeper into what I figured was “safe,” I decided to push the limits of my playing as well as my writing. In other words, it was now time to play on the edge and completely forget about trying to put something commercially acceptable together.

On this record I had such a strong desire to work with some other musicans - guitar players, yes - that I admired. So two of my favorites at the time were George Lynch from Dokken and Jeff Watson from Night Ranger. The first song I wrote with George in mind was “Tears of Sahara” a very sultry ballad with a very spacious trade section for us both. The next song I wrote was the up-tempo piece called “The Kings Cup” with Jeff Watson in mind.

TONY MACALPINE - "Key To The City" (Official Video) HD

Many more songs quickly followed like “Hundreds of Thousands,” “Dreamstate,” and “Time and the Test,” so the need to round out the rhythm section was becoming more and more necessary. So we held some drum auditions up at the studio and the first drummer we listened to was Deen Castronova of Journey. We knew after he played it was really not necessary to continue the auditions, but then we weren’t counting on hearing the monster player that is Atma Anur. I heard him play and was so stunned we knew we had to have both of these great players on the album. So as it was, now we had two great drummers and for one reason or another we had no bassist for the actual sessions, so I found myself in the position of performing all bass duties myself.

The recordings started with the basic track formation and the tunes fell into shape. There were some setbacks, like when the green crackle B.C. Rich guitar (pictured on the back of the album) fell off a chair and the headstock snapped clean off. It was repaired but it was never the same after that - perhaps it was mental on my part but that’s how it went down. Then there was the time I was driving back to San Rafael very early in the morning listening to some of the mixes and I see this VW in flames burning on the 101 freeway and thought to myself “Wow that looks just like the engineer Steve Fontano’s wheels!” Well guess what - it was!

But overall there was this incredible musical energy around the studio at that time - with Paul Gilbert and the Racer X dudes in rehearsal next door and George Lynch in the control room - we felt like we could do no harm. Jeff Watson had a studio in his place in Mill Valley and it was amazing to go over there and hear his great work on “The Kings Cup” and still feel the energy. And you know, it was also very cool to have had the opportunity to see the eight-fingered technique up close. I thought Steve Fontano did a miraculous job of blending all of those different guitar sounds as well as the Chopin Etude #4, Opus 10 on tape and making it all fit.

Tony MacAlpine - Tears of Sahara - Official Clip (High Quality)

Armed with my latest array of B.C. Rich guitars, I was more than tempted to recreate the guitar lines exactly as they were from demo stage to album level. However it was during this time that I remembered that it was perfectly acceptable to explore and feel free to play many of the parts differently than I had when I first wrote them. So in essence, they really grew into these more aggressive guitar pieces with a purpose of their very own rather than just a collection of songs designed to pick up where Edge of Insanity left off. I was very pleased with the instrument playing and technical work of everyone on that release, as were Cliff Burnstein and Mike Varney.

For me it’s so very important to learn from each and every time you go into the studio, whether it’s a demo or master, and the things I learned from the Maximum Security sessions were not to be afraid to record music that might not be globally satisfying to all, but uplifting to those select players and listeners who desire that type of individual expression. As well as establishing a number of new and lasting friendships that have continued to this day, I have since begun to look at music as a true universal language that has its own unique message. And what we get from the message is not nearly as important as what we learn along the way to hearing it. For it’s these lessons of life that truly shape who we are and the musicians that we become."

Ronnie Björnström: Working On Abhorrent Decimation Debut

Aeon Guitarist Ronnie Björnström Working On Debut Abhorrent Decimation Album
Today, London based death metal newcomers Abhorrent Decimation announce they are working with Ronnie Björnström of Enhanced Audio Productions (Garageland Studios, Sweden) on the bands highly anticipated debut album.

Following the success of the bands debut EP 'Infected Celestial Utopia' via Cold Birth Records, numerous shows across the UK including a tour with Hour of Penance and a crushing performance at this years Bloodstock Open Air Festival the band are delighted to share this news.

Vocalist Ashley Scott had this to say on the appointment of Ronnie, “Ronnie is responsible for one my favourite sounding records of all time! The first time I heard Aeon 'Aeons Black', I knew we had to get in touch with Ronnie about the album. I would not settle for anything less. We spent a little time talking about the goal and what we wanted to achieve with this record and it was clear to me that Ronnie was able to give us exactly what we wanted. Our EP was a great start but now is the time to step everything up, material, production, direction – this album has to put our name on the map and we are positive Ronnie is the man for job.”

Ronnie shared these words on the upcoming task ahead of him, “Abhorrent Decimation is a great band. It will be a fun project to work on for sure! We have had close contact to figure what direction we should aim for… It will be a killer album when it’s done. Ashley sent me the demo's, the material was like I expected. Aggressive, punchy and overkill! I had to take a couple of beers after listening to it due to all the brutality in the tracks!”.

Ronnie has created incredible sounding records for the likes of Aeon, Zonaria, Gnawer, Bodyfarm and Persuader to name a few.

The band has attracted the support from many of the big names in the UK press and overseas with support coming in from Metal Hammer, Terrorizer, The Guardian, Team Rock, Total Rock, MetalMouth, PlanetMosh to name a few, the album is set to be a well received Death Metal offering.

"...This band have all the brutality and technical prowess required to make music this extreme detonate with maximum impact, but what they have that many of their peers don't is memorable songs underpinned by huge grooves and an infectious sense of momentum. New song Echoes Of The Vortex suggests that the Londoners' full-length debut will be one of 2015's must-have death metal records... Fucking brilliant, basically..." (Dom Lawson – Metal Hammer)
